Mathers Clinic Receives $500,000 Grant to Open Center in Kendall County
Mathers Clinic in Crystal Lake has been awarded a $500,000 grant to open an opiate treatment program in Kendall County. Mathers Recovery, the premier opiate treatment program for Mathers Clinic, will be opening their third location this June of 2019. In 2013, Mathers Recovery opened their Elgin and Fox Lake treatment centers, providing a combination of medication-assisted treatment and behavioral counseling for co-occurring disorders and addiction patients.
As we are in the U.S. Opioid Epidemic, the information provided within the grant application stated that “According to the 2017 Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Opioid Data Dashboard, Kendall County showed there were 37 overdoses in the Yorkville area, 18 overdoses in the Montgomery area and 15 overdoses in the Yorkville area. Since the county itself does not have a detox hospital available, many of the patients who are experiencing overdose symptoms in Kendall County are transported to Kane, Dupage and Will Counties. According to the 2018 County Health Rankings used data report from 2014-2016, these three counties combine for a total of 801 drug overdose deaths: Kane (144), Dupage (336), and Will (321). The most overdose fatalities occurred between the ages of 25 to 34. From 2016 to 2017, the sharpest increase occurred among deaths have been related to fentanyl and its analogs (other synthetic narcotics). Mathers Recovery is one of the only opioid treatment centers that test for Fentanyl and its analogs, giving it an advantage to detecting early interventions and implementing a unique treatment plan that is specific to each individual’s needs.
As recipients of the grant, the new location will be located at 507 W Kendall Drive Suite 1, Yorkville, IL 60560. Mathers Recovery will be partnering with Kendall County Judicial System, Kendall County Mental Health Board and Kendall County Health Department to implement the successful format they are currently using to better serve our communities. Other successful partnerships include: Kane County Mental Health Council, Lake County Opioid Initiative, McHenry County Mental Health Board and Winnebago County Mental Health Board.
Mathers Recovery is one of the largest opiate and private mental health centers in Northern Illinois. Their medical and clinical staff provides psychiatric services for co-existing conditions, substance abuse counseling, and support services. The program is designed to offer encouragement, support recovery, and promote the physical and emotional well-being of clients served. The goal of the treatment is to enhance the client’s life, by reducing symptoms and needs, building resilience, restoring and improving daily activities, and support the clients’ integration within the community.
Their successful outpatient treatment program does not require hospitalization or rehabilitation check-in. Their outpatient facilities have highly trained professionals who specialize in drug addiction treatment and the underlying issue that may contribute to dependency problems. Those suffering from opiate addiction will be involved with evidenced-based practices and medication assistance options such as buprenorphine, and naltrexone (Vivitrol). Clients will benefit from many of the services that Mathers Recovery offers but not limited to: substance abuse counseling, intensive outpatient programs, psychosocial rehabilitation, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational enhancement interviews, contingency management, and supportive services. The outpatient program serves both clients and their families/friends by offering education about opioid use disorder and prevention of substance relapse.
